13th Edition Ameland Art Month, November 2009. A cultural highlight in the month of November: an island-wide exhibition. Another Ameland Art Month-this time lasting from 31 October through 29 November- entitled: “The 13th Edition”. The 13th Ameland Art Month has been organised with a focus on the Graphic Arts discipline. Visitors are invited to wander over the island along the art displays in November. For the entire month, visitors may enjoy art, surrounded by the subdued aspects of the November landscape. November is the month of mystical silence in occasional misty or stormy weather typical of the Wadden region. Approximately 73 artists exhibit their work in this inspiring environment. Once again, the organisation brought together an international group of artists from Sweden, Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands. The Art Month is island-wide. Exhibitions are on display in all four villages, presented on 30 different locations. These locations are originally and tastefully decorated rooms in hotels, in apartment buildings, in recreation rooms on (farmyard) campsites, in churches, galleries and even in the town hall. Moreover, a former swimming pool and, naturally, the dune landscape serve as locations for exhibition venues. One of the objectives of the Art Month is to put together an exhibition with a great variety of disciplines. The exhibitions cover a wide variety of styles, ranging from paintings, photography, video art, to sculptures, textile art, ceramics and glass art, as well as jewellery. The range of styles is quite broad. It ranges from the most realistic detail to total abstraction in various mediums and techniques. The exhibitions are easy to locate. A practical tour guide with lots of information will be available in November to assist the visitor in his visit to Ameland and stimulate his appreciation of the displayed art. By the end of September, a special 2010 Art Month Agenda will be published capturing a work of art of all of the exhibiting artists. The musical performances planned for the weekends have become a tradition of the Art Month. The working group for stage art (“Werkgroep Podiumkunst”) will present its cultural evening show. On Saturday, the island's inhabitants and the visitors may enjoy cabaret, a concert or some other special performance in the concert hall, from one of the churches on Ameland. During the Art Month, this year, visitors who want to express themselves in art may participate in various workshops. The workshops are taught by artists exhibiting during the Art Month. All exhibitions organised within the context of the Ameland Art Month will be open from Wednesday to Sunday. A number of locations will also be open on the other days of the week.
